Your Ultrasound in Week 40
  • If your doctor wants to estimate your baby's weight, one of the most important measurements the sonographer can take is abdominal circumference.
  • This scan shows a cross-section view of the baby's belly.
  • The small back oval is his/her stomach, and the curved black line you notice is the blood vessel that brings nutrients from the placenta.
  • Soon, you'll have a very different way of feeding him/her!

Be prepared for newborn skincare

As you step into the last week of your pregnancy, you just can't wait to see your baby's face and shower it with kisses. It's important to know that your baby's facial skin will be thin and very delicate, making it prone to dryness. So, don't forget to pack a baby face cream in your hospital bag. Choose Mylo Baby Face Cream , safe to use for newborns, that:

  • Makes skin soft & supple..
  • Soothes irritated skin..
  • Offers 24 hours moisturization..

Your Baby in Week 40
  • Your baby still weighs about three kilograms and measures up to 21 inches. You are possibly only hours or just mere days away from seeing your little bundle of joy and happiness. Can you even believe it?
  • Your baby is most definitely settled into an upside-down position and will continue to lower himself/herself into your cervix to come out into the real world. However, if your baby still has not changed the stance, with his/her head toward the birth canal, most doctors recommend that you give birth via a C-Section procedure.
  • The bones in his/her body have hardened except for the ones in the skull, which still are not properly fused together.
  • As your baby has done all the growing he/she can possibly do inside the womb, there is only one last thing that is left to do: come out and say 'hello' to the whole world!

Symptoms You Might Feel in Week 40
  • Leg cramps : Now that you are in the 40th week, it is no wonder that you have severe leg cramps. Your body is carrying all that weight day and night. Take rest and relax your legs as much as you can.
  • Braxton Hicks contractions : Braxton-Hicks Contractions are like a tightening sensation happening in your uterus. These contractions are practice sessions to get your uterus in the form to give birth. Do note their frequency and get to the doctor immediately, now that you are 40 weeks.
  • Sleepless nights : We understand that sleep is almost like a distant dream now. Hang in there, it is the 40th week.
  • Diarrhea : Wow! From all that constipation, now you have moved on to diarrhea? Loose bowel movements are a definite sign of labour. Up on your feet, right away!
  • Lesser fetal activity : Are you feeling about ten movements in a couple of hours or less? Remember the baby is grown now and must not be finding enough space to move around.
  • Cervical dilation : Do you feel your cervix has started opening? It is mostly bound to happen this week, if not already. You could start the countdown to delivery from n Mylo's solution to stretch marks

Your Body & Health in Week 40
  • If you have not experienced false contractions yet, there are all chances that you will experience them now.
  • Did you know that the baby is moving closer to your cervix now? This process is known as effacement.
  • It means that the cervix is becoming softer, thinner, and shorter in preparation for delivery.
  • Most women go into labor within 12 hours of their water breaking.
  • Labor pain could last for a very short span of time for some women and for some, it could feel like an eternity.
  • During labor, your doctor will urge you to push when the time is just right.
  • With each passing contraction, each push will reveal a little more of your baby's head from the vaginal opening.
  • If your baby's head does not slip back in, then it is called crowning.
  • However, if you are starting to feel extremely uncomfortable to the point where you just wish the baby would pop out somehow (and of course you haven't gone into labor), there are ways to induce labor as well.
  • Doctors generally wait a few more days to induce labor if it doesn't happen by the due date.
  • Did you know that taking long walks, having sex, and acupuncture are supposedly quite effective in inducing labor?
  • However, we urge you to hang in there and let nature take its own sweet time.
  • If you do not give birth this week, you will in the next couple of weeks to come.
  • Meanwhile, we hope your partner is fully aware of what is expected when the big moment comes.
  • Be prepared, both of you! All the best!
