In a bid to encourage more normal deliveries and reduce infant mortality and malpractices like female foeticide, the Telangana government launched KCR Kit Scheme for pregnant women in 2017-18. Under this scheme, the Telangana government offers pregnant women who give birth at a government hospital a KCR kit containing essentials worth Rs. 15,000. Additionally, the government offers financial assistance of Rs. 12,000 in three phases and an additional Rs. 1,000 in the case of a baby girl.

With the implementation of the KCR Kit Scheme, the Telangana government aims to:
Promote more normal deliveries instead of caesarian births at government hospitals
Reduce infant mortality rates and female foeticide
Improve the well-being of both the mother and her baby
Help fulfill mother and her baby’s nutritional needs
The following pregnant women can benefit from the KCR Kit Scheme:
Pregnant women who give birth at a government hospital in Telangana.
The beneficiary must delivery at a government hospital and not at a private hospital.
The beneficiary must have an Aadhar Card belonging to the Telangana state.
The beneficiary can utilize this scheme for a maximum of two deliveries.
The KCR Kit Scheme offers the following benefits to pregnant women and their baby:
A KCR Kit containing 16 essentials worth Rs. 15,000 namely, baby oil, diapers, soaps useful for mother and her child, powder, shampoo, a mosquito net, dresses, handbags, toys for children, sarees, towels, napkins and a baby bed. The supplies will be sufficient for up to three months.
Besides the kit, the government will also provide Rs. 13,000 for a baby girl and Rs. 12,000 for a baby boy in three phases to the mother.
Rs. 3,000 will be provided after the mother completed 2 NC checkups within five and a half months.
Rs. 4,000 will be provided after the delivery of the baby. If it’s a baby girl, the mother will be provided Rs. 5,000.
Rs. 2,000 will be provided after the successful completion of the first-month immunizations.
Rs. 3,000 to be provided after the successful completion of the second-month immunizations.
Pregnant women can register both online and offline for the KCR Kit Scheme.
For online registration, pregnant women can visit the official portal at https://kcrkit.telangana.gov.in/ and apply for the scheme.
For offline registration, pregnant women can visit their nearest Public Health Center and get themselves registered.
So far, 38,60,401 pregnant women and mothers have registered themselves for the KCR Kit Scheme. The Telangana government has offered over 13,00,780 KCR Kits to the beneficiaries. In the years since the launch of the KCR Kit Scheme, there has been a significant boost in NC Checkups and immunizations.
