Pregnancy
Updated on 3 November 2023
Nearly all women get stretch marks during pregnancy. Though these rip marks are harmless, some women wear them as a badge of honour symbolizing how their bodies changed through their pregnancies, while for others, they might be an eyesore. In this article, we will discuss the stretch marks reason, treatment and some FAQs.
The main stretch marks reason during pregnancy is sudden growth. When you are pregnant, your uterus grows to make more space for the baby. Unfortunately, the skin is unable to adapt and stretch at the same rate, causing the tissues and collagen in the skin to tear and form stretch marks. Further, pregnancy hormones weaken the fiber in the skin causing stretch marks.
Another stretch marks reason could be your genes, which means that if your mother had them, then the chances of you developing them are also high.
Stretch marks usually appear as a network of red, white, or purple-hued lines and are seen on the arms, torso, breasts, stomach, hips and thighs. They start appearing between weeks 13 and 21 of pregnancy and are more visible on fair-skinned women.
Stretch marks are extremely common and don’t just appear in pregnant women. They can happen anytime the skin is stretched in excess like during puberty or periods of weight gain and loss. Hormonal changes during pregnancy affect your skin and increase your chances of getting stretch marks.
According to experts, stretch marks do not disappear, but can lighten over time with the help of the right safe and natural product. An effective stretch marks lightening cream would nourish, heal and repair the skin, improving its elasticity. With regular use, one can get relief from dry, itchy skin and also notice the stretch marks lighten and fade away gradually.
An effective stretch marks lightening cream would be made up of all or a combination of natural ingredients like Saffron, Coconut oil, Mango butter, Shea butter, and extracts of Kokum and Gotukola. The natural extracts of Kokum and Gotukola promote collagen production, tightening the skin and healing it in the process.
While Saffron is known to reduce pigmentation and skin blemishes, Coconut oil helps clear scar marks on the skin. Mango and Shea butter help soothe the itchiness of stretch marks by moisturizing the skin deeply making it feel soft and supple. Shea butter also has antimicrobial properties that help reduce skin scarring.
Here are the most effective Mylo products that can help you prevent and reduce stretch marks:
The Mylo Care Stretch Marks Cream is a natural, toxin-free product enriched with ingredients like Saffron, Shea Butter, Kokum and Coconut Oil. Regular application of the Mylo Stretch Marks Cream will help prevent and soothe stretch marks, moisturize and heal itchy skin and reduce dark spots and wrinkles.
The Mylo Care Stretch Marks Oil is loaded with natural oils like Sea Buckthorn Oil, Rosehip Oil, Argan Oil and Coconut Oil. Its non-greasy formula gets absorbed in the skin easily and provides nourishment and elasticity that helps prevent and reduce stretch marks.
The Mylo Stretch Marks Butter is made with emollient butters like Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Kokum Butter and Rosehip Oil, which moisturize the skin and enhance elasticity. This all-natural and toxin-free product is a great choice for stretch marks prevention and reduction.
Just like other things, stretch marks also have a life cycle. They are easier to treat when they have just made an appearance. Therefore, it is essential that you treat them as soon as you notice them. Better still, a stretch marks lightening cream should be applied from week 13 of pregnancy to avoid them as much as possible.
Just apply the stretch marks lightening cream that you have selected for yourself liberally over the area where the stretch marks are making an appearance, twice a day. This helps keep the skin moist and prevents the tear marks from making an appearance.
You can reduce the appearance of stretch marks naturally at home. But if stretch marks cover a large area of your skin and have become a cause of concern for you, you may see a doctor or dermatologist. They will help to determine the stretch marks reason and the right course of treatment for you.
Like most scars, stretch marks are permanent. However, with the application of the right and safe products, their appearance may lighten over time.
Vaseline or any other petroleum jelly can help moisturize your skin but it may not be so effective in removing and healing stretch marks.
Foods rich in Vitamins C, D & E, zinc and protein can help prevent and reduce your stretch marks. Collagen-boosting foods can also help.
By keeping your skin moisturized, consuming foods that boost skin health and applying stretch marks preventing cream, oil or butter can help lower your risk of getting stretch marks.
You can expect the stretch marks to look red or purple initially and fade into white or silver over time.
You can ask your healthcare provider about your stretch marks reason, how to prevent them and what are the ways of treating stretch marks.
