Baby Moon
Updated on 29 January 2022
Planning a vacation during your pregnancy is known as a babymoon. No doubt it’ll remind you of some good old days of your honeymoon but this time you are carrying a baby in your womb. You and your partner know very well that when the baby will arrive, you both will not get much time to spend with each other and that’s when you plan a babymoon. Couples across the globe are taking babymoon holidays just to relax and enjoy the beautiful phase of pregnancy. No doubt your prenatal checkups and screening tests must be giving you a tough time but who is stopping you to take a break from it. All you need is a nod from your gynecologist and then you are all set to go. Keeping in mind your pregnancy symptoms, reduced mobility, and general safety you must prepare for a babymoon experience. Below mentioned are some pointers that you should keep in mind to avoid any risk during your babymoon:
Your second trimester is considered one of the best phases for a babymoon. You can comfortably travel and hopefully, your nausea is a distant memory now. Doctors advise that it's best to plan before the third trimester because in your first trimester you feel more uncomfortable and tired.
Before you get excited about that long-awaited holiday you must choose a destination that is suitable for your pregnancy. Avoid remote areas, desserts, and cruise because that would make medical assistance difficult at times. If you are planning to travel overseas then you must speak to your doctor about the necessary vaccines. Check out for medical facilities when you are researching for locations and get in touch with a nearby hospital and make sure it’s within the reach.
Minimize your travel time as traveling during pregnancy can bring you a new set of hurdles. If you are carrying multiples or the doctor has already told you that your pregnancy is at high risk then don’t get disappointed if your doctor doesn’t allow you to fly overseas. If your pregnancy is normal then you must check with the airline staff because some airlines have various restrictions regarding domestic and international travel. You must opt for a non-stop flight and consider landing places that have short flight times. Avoid traveling to areas that have a high risk of certain diseases because that can result in miscarriage, preterm labor, or even stillbirth.
Be extra cautious about your belly. Any vacations that involve adventure activities like trekking, camel safaris, white water rafting, etc. should be strictly avoided. If you are traveling by car then you must avoid wearing your seatbelt directly over your belly as that helps in preventing the exerted pressure. You must keep your legs straight because that lessens the risk of blood clots. Keep your blood pumping by moving around after every one hour and take enough breaks to empty your bladder (pee-time).
You can keep it simple and relaxing by checking out several attractions of your preferred destination for instance- a beautiful park, visiting a museum or gallery, get a soothing couple’s massage and make a reservation at a restaurant whose ratings and reviews are on a higher side.
Don’t forget to speak to your health insurance provider and find out what sort of urgent care you can get in case you encounter any medical emergency. Avoid exhaustion and take frequent breaks if you’ve planned major activities during your babymoon. Understandably you want to have a great time with your spouse but be realistic about your budget and plan accordingly.
For a hassle-free journey, you should have plenty of snacks and water. Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen, vitamins, and supplements as advised by a doctor. Let the hotel staff know that you’re pregnant and just feel good when you get all that pampering. Rather than sitting idle at home and getting stressed out about your labor and how things will work later on you must go out and explore the world.
