In this fast-paced world where children are increasingly spending their time with gadgets, it is important to instil the habit of creating things with their hands. One of the interesting ways you can help your children think creatively is by encouraging them to create 'the best out of waste products. Here is a list of items they can make using things already available at home. While you may need to help them initially with the raw materials, children are quick to understand and will come up with their own combinations for making new things.
To make a sock snowman, you need old pairs of socks, shirt buttons, ribbons, board pins, and rubber bands. Cut the white sock in half, turn it inside or outside and fill the sock with old pairs of socks. Take a small portion and tie it with a rubberband for the head. Secure the neck area with ribbons and board pins for eyes and noes. You can cut another piece of coloured sock on top of it to make it look like a hat. And that's your snowman!
For this, you need a pencil, glue, sharpener, a piece of white paper and coloured sketch pens. Draw a vase on the paper with stems in it. Take the pencil shavings and stick them at the end of the stem, so they look like flowers. It's quite easy, and your children are sure to enjoy it.
To make toys from matchboxes, you need coloured paper, coloured papes, and glue. Cover the matchbox with coloured paper. Draw eyes and mouth on it. Now use other matchboxes to create hands and legs. You can also paste cut-out stickers of hearts to make them look cute. This is an easy best out of the waste craft, and it will surely be a fun-filled time with your loved one.
Take an old T-shirt, cut the sleeves, and the stitching around the neck. Turn it inside out and create two big holes on both sides, to hold it firmly. Now stitch together the bottom, and there goes your new bag! You can paint the outside of the cloth to make it look pretty.
You are sure to have cardboard boxes at home in which packages arrived. You simply have to cover them with coloured marble paper and decorate them with cute drawings. It can be used to store toys or stationery items that otherwise children scatter across the room. This is one of the easy ways to make the best out of waste items at home.
One of the things people commonly make when they want to create the best out of waste items is paper bookmarks. To make bookmarks, you need thick cardboard paper and coloured pens. Cut out the paper in the shape of bookmarks and cover them with white paper. Now write your favourite quotes or draw your favourite characters on them. Punch a hole in the middle on the top and tie a ribbon through it. Children are sure to love making this.
Do you have an old photo frame at home which lies in the corner of a room? You can teach your child to enhance the look and feel of it using corks. Paint the frame in a beautiful colour, cut the corks into ¼-inch pieces and stick them on the frame. You can paint the corks in different colours or in a pattern of colours to make them look beautiful. Don't forget to add a bow or a star to the corner
Cut a plastic bottle in half and use its bottom half to create a beautiful pen stand. Paint it and make drawings of your favourite characters, and your pen stand is ready to be used. Creating the best out of waste plastic bottles is quite common as it is easy and useful.
Fix four corks at the belly of a bottle, and make a slit on the top of the bottle through which you can slide coins in it. You can paint it and use it. Your children are also sure to develop the habit of saving.
Take the rocks you found on the river bank or the beach; they could also be a shell, and paint them. It is going to be a cute addition to your table.
